Fresh from his foray in to the US motocross scene, Sam Sunderland stormed the beach at Mamzar during the Dubai Police Anti-Drug campain event- “Say No to Drugs, Yes to Sports” this past June 23 and 25, 2011.
This annual event, organized by local motocross heroes, Mohammed Balooshi and Sean Gaugain, is part of a charity and awareness campaign against drug abuse. Attracting tremendous attention from the public, the motocrossers and desert riders alike, banded together and competed once more on the beach at Mamzar.
The long sand track was fast, challenging and physically demanding. In the heat of the summer, even when riding in the early evening hours, riders were physically challenged. And when the sand settled in the MX1 class, the fittest of them all emerged- Sam Sunderland (KTM-UAE Racing Team). Literally lapping the field in all his races (2 per day), Sam wowed the crowd of spectators and amazed his fellow riders with the power, agility and stability of the KTM 450 SX-F.
“It was tough as the track easily got rutted. But it was still ok as my KTM 450 SX-F was really good dealing with the rough track and I always had more than enough power to get through the pack,” said Sam.
“This event is really great as it brings a lot of attention to the exhibit of the Dubai Police. And fighting against drug abuse is important and we (KTM-UAE) are very happy and proud to have been part of it,” Sam continues.
Indeed, this year’s event was tough but well worth the effort. And to have our team rider win the event and to be able to help the Dubai Police in their fight against drug abuse, well, that’s the icing on the cake.
The KTM-UAE Racing Team features Tim Trenker, Mohammed Balooshi and Sam Sunderland, supported by Red Bull and Volkswagen.
