Tim Trenker looking to make rallying history for the UAE

The KTM-UAE team, sponsored by Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, is looking to provide the United Arab Emirates with its first ever biking world rally champion as the final round of the 2010 FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship gets underway in Egypt this week.

Dubai-based Tim Trenker sits in first place of the World Championship Open Production Trophy, and 4th place overall, following superb performances in the first three rounds of the World Championship. Having sat out the fourth round in Brazil, Trenker now only needs to record a top 5 finish in the Pharaons Rally of Egypt (4-9 October) to take the prestigious class title.

Trenker will be riding a KTM 690 Rally bike, as he battles it out against 35 of the world’s best riders in the Open Production Class. His impressive results in Abu Dhabi, Tunisia and Sardinia have served to demonstrate the strength of the UAE racing scene at the very highest level globally.

“This has been an incredible season for all of us in the KTM-UAE team. I could never have imagined coming to Egypt with a chance of returning home as world champion,” said Trenker, who is also managing partner of KTM-UAE. “Regardless of the final result, I am delighted to have rewarded the faith and support of our friends, partners and supporters in the UAE. But having come so far I am determined to do my best to earn the points needed to take the title.”

The 13th edition of the Pharaons international cross country rally is set to be the best yet. Starting in the shadows of one of the seven wonders of the world, the Pyramids of Giza, and ending up on the Mediterranean coast at El Alamein, the rally will feature a record number of bikes, making it the largest competitive field outside of the world-famous Dakar rally.

The Pharaons Rally is a true test of endurance, lasting for six days and covering over 2,500km. After the mountains and forests of Trenker’s last outing in Sardinia, the return to sand dunes and rocky tracks will be a reassuring sight for the Dubai-resident, whose normal training routine involves taking on the UAE desert.

Supported by the team’s partners ADCB, GAC and Al Shafar Group, Trenker will be riding alongside triple winner of the Pharaons Rally, and two-time Dakar winner, the legendary Marc Coma. Coma is part of the KTM Factory team, which will be providing on-the-ground assistance in Egypt to Trenker and the KTM-UAE team as they bid to make their own piece of rallying history.
